Kushimoto "Ertugrul" Airport
1960 – 1969
The 1960s was a year of prolonged and intense political struggles in Japan, with the massive and often quite violent Miike Coal Mine Strike followed by the massive nationwide Anpo Protests against the renewal of the U.S. – Japan Security Treaty. The regional airport in Kushimoto opened in these conditions. Therefor, the airport saw limited charter service. The airport could handle five aircraft at once, with space for a maximum of two widebody aircraft. This capacity was however, never used at maximum in the 1960s.
