Hwasan (íě°) is a fictional Korean city on a island off the Korean Peninsula. Hwasan has mild, warm weather during much of the year and is therefor a well-known resort, with prestigious hotels and beaches. Hwasan welcomes many visitors every year, mainly from the Korean mainland, Japan and China, but also has flights to Europe and America. Hwasan is Korean for volcano.
History
Hwasan International Airport (íě°ęľě ęłľí) is one of the largest airports in Korea and is opened in 1963. The airport is unique since it is jointly operated by the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). While the airport serves many mainland destinations in Korea, it also has international flights to and from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Europe and the United States. The airport is able handling large widebody aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and McDonnell Douglas DC-10.
